The Fishing Company of Alaska (FCA), which owns five Alaska catcher processors has reportedly ceased fishing operations. Speculation is that the recent earthquake in Japan has affected their markets. FCA's fishing operations target atka mackerel, yellow fin sole, and arrowtooth flounder. The value of fishing rights held by FCA is a closely guarded secret. It is unknown what FCA's plans are for future fishing operations. FCA was the subject of a major Coast Guard casualty investigation following the sinking of the ALASKA RANGER in 2008.
