A 55-year old Japanese crewman has reportedly fallen overboard from the ALASKA VICTORY. The man was reported to have gone overboard 110 miles west of Togiak on Wednesday. He was not wearing a survival suit or life jacket. Coast Guard records indicate the 226-foot ALASKA VICTORY is operated by Fishing Company of Alaska. The Fishing Company of Alaska was the owner of the ALASKA RANGER, which sank in the Bering Sea in March of 2008 with the loss of five crewmen's lives. The Coast Guard investigation into the ALASKA RANGER sinking questioned whether or not Japanese interests improperly controlled the vessel. The Coast Guard search for the man lost from the ALASKA VICTORY has been called off. The circumstances of this latest tragedy to strike the Fishing Company of Alaska are unknown at this time and under investigation by the Coast Guard.
