Ten passengers aboard the whale-watching vessel Island Explorer II were injured when the ship hit a submerged rock off the coast of Whidbey Island, WA on Thursday, June 7. Water began to pour into two compartments in the ship's damaged bow and hull after running aground, but the ship did not contact the Coast Guard and made it back to shore unassisted.

Of the 52 passengers aboard at the time of the incident, ten were taken to Island Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

It is often possible to recover financial compensation for injuries sustained during vessel groundings of this kind.
