The Coast Guard is investigating a collision between the 257-foot cruise vessel Spirit of Yorktown and the 58-foot fishing vessel Adirondack. The collision occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on June 25 in Chatham Strait in Southeast Alaska.

No one was injured in the collision, but Adirondack's steering was disabled and the fishing vessel had to be towed to port. The vessel also sustained damage to its right side and top house. The much larger Spirit of Yorktown reported no damage.

The sky was overcast at the time of the collision, making the area dark. The specifics of the collision aren't available, since the investigation is ongoing. The Spirit of Yorktown was involved in another boating accident last year, when it ran aground in Washington state, but the company was not cited for wrongdoing in that case.

The owner of Adirondak hoped to have his vessel - his livelihood - back on the water within a week of the collision.
