FISHERMAN SUFFERS GRAPHIC EYE INJURY

Topic: Injury at Sea
A commercial fisherman offshore from Coos Bay, Ore. suffered a grisly fishing accident on Thursday. A large, commercial-size fishing hook somehow became lodged in the man's left eye, and was plunged so deeply that it protruded through his brow. A Coast Guard helicopter crew transported the man from his vessel, the Rose Marie, to Bay Area Hospital in Oregon.
Hospital officials report that the man is in stable condition and that the hook appears to have missed all the vital portions of his eye.
Injuries like this one are often the result of unsafe conditions aboard vessels, or of negligence of the commercial fishing employer. If you have been injured while working at sea, be sure to find out your rights to compensation under the Jones Act and maritime law. Contact the experienced lawyers at Beard Stacey Trueb & Jacobsen to talk about you case, or visit our website for more basic information about maritime law and about our practice.
