TRIDENT SEAFOODS LOSSES CREWMAN OVERBOARD OFF OF ALEUTIAN FALCON

The Canadian Coast Guard has reported that a fish processor aboard Trident Seafoods' vessel ALEUTIAN FALCON has been lost overboard. The 30 year old crewman was last seen aboard the vessel around noon on Thursday and discovered missing around 4:00 P.M. The ALEUTIAN FALCON was transiting between Port Neville to Campbell River and retraced its route in an attempt to locate the missing crewman. The crewman's body was recovered by kayakers near Port McNeill on Friday Afternoon.

The ALEUTIAN FALCON is a 223 foot Alaska Fish Processor which carries a crew of up to 120 fish processors. The circumstances of how the crewman fell overboard are unknown at this time.

Coast Guard Suspends Search For Missing Crewman

On August 10, 2009, the Coast Guard has reported that it has suspended its search for a 23 year old Russian man who was reported as having fallen overboard on the HYUNDAI TOKYO on July 26, 2009. The 996 foot container ship was approximately 180 miles South of Unimak Island when Alexey Lyalyeaev went missing. The Coast Guard searched for almost 27 hours and covered more than 2,329 square miles using two HC-130 Hercules aircrafts and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter. The HYUNDAI TOKYO retraced its course for almost 11 hours searching for Lyalyeaev. Once the ship reached the position where Lyalyeaev was last seen, the Ship's crew spent 90 minutes searching the area for him.

The Coast Guard reported that Lyalyeaev is the eighth crewman to have died falling overboard since January, 2009.

SEARCH SUSPENDED FOR DIVER MISSING IN SAN JUAN ISLANDS

The Coast Guard has reported that it has suspended a search for a recreational diver missing in the San Juan Islands. According to the Coast Guard, the diver failed to surface from a group dive on Wednesday and the United States Coast Guard was contacted at around 3:15 p.m. The Coast Guard and San Juan County responded but a surface and air search failed to successfully locate the missing diver. The search spanned approximately 46 square nautical miles and five hours. The missing 40 year old diver is believed to have been an experienced diver with U.S. Navy diving experience.
